“Special Needs” Adoption
Special homes are needed for “special needs” children.  Placement of foster children is considered to be in the realm of “special needs adoptions” simply because foster children have been removed from their birth families due to neglect or abuse at home.  For these reasons, the children may have special needs.

Nebraska Children's Home specializes in infant adoptions and is not in the position to help with the placement of older children, sibling groups and medically fragile children.  These children do not generally come through Nebraska Children’s Home Society.  They are sought through Nebraska Health and Human Services and the Adoption Partnership.

The Nebraska Children's Home has a need for foster families willing to take children who often have special emotional and/or medical needs.

For those living in the Omaha area, foster parenting is an option for you.  Children are placed into foster care in the hopes that their birth parents will get their lives in order and get the treatment necessary to provide a stable home for their children. The eventual goal is reunification between the children and their families.  There are no guarantees that this will happen and unfortunately, this frequently takes a lot longer than anyone would like and is very detrimental to the child.
